Providing our workforce with the tools, materials and training to keep them on top of their skills is a major role of our safety department.  Staying up-to-date on industry standards, keeping employees informed and involved is a full-time job for every member of our team.  Ironwood Heavy Highway, LLC has been recognized as an industry leader regarding safety training.

  • Zero tolerance drug & alcohol policy
  • 7-year background checks on new hires
  • Electrical Hazard Awareness Program training (EHAP)
  • Hands-on chainsaw and operations training
  • Hazard communications/GHS standard
  • Employees immediately enrolled into our Utility Line Clearance Tree Trimming Certification program
  • In-house Herbicide Apprenticeship program
  • First Aide & CPR certification
  • Weekly safety tailgate letters
  • Topical safety bulletins
  • A documented disciplinary program
  • A documented daily job briefing and job site assessment (JSA) risk matrix on every crew
  • Annual dielectric testing of tools, lifts, and aerial lifts
  • PPE issued and training in its use

Ironwood Heavy Highway, LLC is proud to be an integral part of the safety community by actively participating in the following:

  • Giving safety presentations for local Department of Public Works and Highway Superintendent meetings
  • Giving safety presentations at local colleges and insurance meetings
  • The Safety Director is a certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP#00053) certified in 2006
  • Ironwood Heavy Highway has been a sitting member of the American National Stands Institute (ANSI) Z133 committee on Arboricultural Safety Operations, as well as a member of two subcommittees
  • The Safety Department Field Superintendents holds OSHA 10, OSHA 30-hour and Hazwoper 40-hour training
  • Certified construction and general industry OSHA 500 and 501 trainers
  • CTSP certified Arborists and degreed Foresters
